Our family is a family of immigrants. It was a difficult and heartbreaking decision, but my parents decided to leave their homeland with their ten children in tow for a more promising future in the United States. At the time of the decision, they did not speak a word of English nor understand anything about the culture they were about to immerse themselves in. The journey began with no money, no food, and no plan – just a very big dream. After going through four refugee camps in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong, we arrived in the U.S. with nothing but the clothes on our backs and the hope of a more promising future. BB Bakery (Baking for the Better) was inspired by our love for food, the arts, and creativity. Our family was given a chance to come to the United States for a better life. Now it is our pleasure to give foster youth, the homeless, single parents, veterans, and anyone in need of help a chance at a better life. The profit from BB Bakery will be used to build One Community - a safe, loving home and place of work for the many special members of our community. One Community’s mission is to create better communities through the provision of housing, jobs, life skills, mentoring and unconditional love. By providing both housing and employment, One Community members can pursue their passion while giving back to their community; our community: One Community.
